A Hamilton-Jacobi approach to non-slow-roll inflation
نویسنده
چکیده
I describe a general approach to characterizing cosmological inflation outside the standard slow-roll approximation, based on the Hamilton-Jacobi formulation of scalar field dynamics. The basic idea is to view the equation of state of the scalar field matter as the fundamental dynamical variable, as opposed to the field value or the expansion rate. I discuss how to formulate the equations of motion for scalar and tensor fluctuations in situations where the assumption of slow roll is not valid. I apply the general results to the simple case of inflation from an “inverted” polynomial potential, and to the more complicated case of hybrid inflation. 98.80.Cq Typeset using REVTEX Electronic address: [email protected] 1

Formalizing the slow-roll approximation in inflation.
The meaning of the inflationary slow-roll approximation is formalised. Comparisons are made between an approach based on the Hamilton-Jacobi equations, governing the evolution of the Hubble parameter, and the usual scenario based on the evolution of the potential energy density. The vital role of the inflationary attractor solution is emphasised, and some of its properties described. We propose...

متن کاملThe Role of Inflation-indexed Bond in Optimal Management of Defined Contribution Pension Plan During the Decumulation Phrase
In this paper we investigate the optimal investment strategy for a defined contribution (DC) pension plan during the decumulation phrase which is risk-averse and pays close attention to inflation risk. The plan aims to maximize the expected constant relative risk aversion (CRRA) utility from the terminal wealth by investing the wealth in a financial market consisting of an inflation-indexed bon...
متن کاملSlow Roll Inflation in Non-Minimally Coupled Theories: Hyperextended Gravity Approach
The slow roll approximation is studied for cosmological models in Hyperextended Scalar-Tensor Theories of Gravity. A procedure to obtain slow roll solutions in non-minimally coupled gravity is outlined and some examples are provided. An integral condition over the functional form of the non-minimal coupling is imposed in order to obtain intermediate inflationary behavior. e-mail: dtorres@venus....
متن کاملTransplanckian energy production and slow roll inflation
In this paper we investigate how the energy density due to a non-standard choice of initial vacuum affects the expansion of the universe during inflation. To do this we introduce source terms in the Friedmann equations making sure that we respect the relation between gravity and thermodynamics. We find that the energy production automatically implies a slow rolling cosmological constant. Hence ...
